Scores and results

Each section receives a scaled score from 0 to 80 and a CEFR level. There is no passing score: whoever receives the result sets the target.

How the score is formed

The objective sections count correct answers; Writing and Speaking are scored by criteria. Everything ends up as a scaled score from 0 to 80 per section.

No penalty

Each correct answer in Listening and Reading and Grammar adds to the section score, and a wrong answer does not cost points.

0 to 80

The scaled score for each section, which keeps the same standard across different tests and years.

0 to 4

Per criterion in Writing and Speaking, assigned by certified raters.

Section and overall

The CEFR level appears for each section and also for the overall score, which is the average of the sections.

A candidate may be at one level in Listening and another in Writing. That is why the scores for all sections should be read together.

From scaled score to CEFR level

The cutoffs are the same in all four sections.
